My advice to learn better

Today i decided to write a blog post with my friend Tom-Vegar. Our task today was to write a blog post about how to learn cleverly and use less time at homework. We learned different learning techniques such as the “pomodoro” technique which i will talk about now.

The pomodoro technique is a way to learn, where you put away all devices that can distract you for 25 minutes and you only focus on reading or studying. If you get reminded that there are something else, the feeling lasts for 20 minutes and you will have a hard time studying. When the time is up and the alarm rings, you can take a few minutes break and get back to work soon. Then you are in the flow, you are ready to study more, and it’s easier to learn. There are thousands of people using this technique. This is a good technique for learning, and i recommend it.

Another way to learn better is too study hard and focus, it can be for 25 five minutes, more or less. The idea is to work hard and let the subconsciousness work with what you have read. When you get back to the work it will be easier to work and the material will be easier to understand.

The conversations

At the school today, me and one of my classmates had a discussion. It was about the earth being round or flat, an it was something we both agreed on, but wanted do discuss anyway. He won the discussion by using solid arguments that were scientifically proven facts while i used reason and common sense. I did or do not believe that the earth is flat, but it was still interesting arguing for it. It was too hard and i had to give up. We both listened to each other.

The second discussion i had was with another classmate, who was reading another book in the english classes than me. We talked together about the books and compared them, we compared the main characters and the story line so far we gotten. They have a lot of similarities but more differences.

The English Novel

I have chosen to read the book The Aboslutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian because i got interested in how Sherman Alexie, the author of the book, would write about native americans using his own experiences. Although he recently did something wrong, his book can be inspiring for not just other young native americans out there, but for other people with difficult life issues. I’m going to read the first chapter in a moment, just to see if my expectations are right.

I have just finished reading about 30 pages of the novel, and i can only say that it is a great book! The book funny when it covers the problems the main character have, despite the seriousness. The novel has a lot of great drawings which illustrates how the people look and acts, which gives us a good perspective on the life in a reservation or a rez as its called in the book. Alexie writes that the main character draws so much because words are so limited, and everyone can understand drawings. I had a good time reading now and i am looking forward to read more in the future.

My First Days at School

Hello everyone, i have recently started on a new school called Sandvika High School. Its not far from where i live, only 5 kilometres. I live at Høvik and use about 15 minutes on my bicycles.  It was exiting to start fresh on a big school like this, a lot of new faces and subjects. There are a lot of things to get used to, but i like this school more than the previous one. I have chosen to have an extra subject called IT or informational technology. i have three more hours a week, but get extra education and an advantage later. I have also gotten some new subjects like geography or theoretical math.

I have met most of the teachers now, and they all seem really nice. The other students in the class are also very nice, and i have already made some new friends. We talk a lot together in the breaks between the hours, and are all exited for a party were we get know each other.

In September are we going to Nordmarka, which is a camp in the forest were we will stay the night. We are going to pick a student from our class to be our student representative to speak for the students at the school. I am exited for this trip as well as the party and i know my class is as well.
